KOI POND Koi Pond Builder Tills Innovations are a specialist company who is based in Bury St. Edmunds but being specialists we cover the whole country. We build koi ponds to meet the customers’ requirements. With koi ponds the way in which they are created is very specific and can be approached in many ways. In our design of Koi ponds we have various parts in the build that are crucial to get right and they way in which the system comes together as a whole is as important as the equipment needed as individual koi parts. In general the main system areas that are looked at are the follows: -he number and size of koi that are anticipated to be added to the koi pond. The construction of the aesthetics of the koi pond. This can be above ground, below ground or as in the case of the picture shown here (in bury St. Edmunds, Suffolk), partly above and below ground. The koi pond design can be formal using brick as shown in this pond picture or below ground and use natural stone to create a natural landscape. The lining of the koi pond can be achieved in many ways, although our preferred method is by glass fibre or using a butyl liner. Either way the building of the koi pond needs to be created as a firm fixed substrate, in brick, block or concrete substructure. As part of the build we create the koi pond its self integrating the required bottom drains which take the water out of the pond for filtration and the returns which take the filter water back to the pond in specific places. The number and size of the ponds bottom drains is a critical part of the design and build process. There are various ways in which the filtration can be achieved but in our experience a gravity fed system is important. The system used for the picture shown here which was in Bury St. Edmunds, Suffolk, used the gravity fed system. The use of a koi pond multi bay system or sometimes referred to as a Multi bay filtration Unit (MFU). The use of a Multi bay filtration unit gives us flexibility in the design of the filtration unit, which in turn means that the exact requirements of the koi pond is met. This includes the vortex unit which takes away the main fish waste, and then the various filter media before the end chamber which uses K1 to polish the pond water. Over time as the pond matures the bays of the filter system can be changed to suit the koi growth and the present size. The design and construction of the filter system not only takes care of the filtration but is specifically designed for ease of maintenance. The koi system allows back flushing the filter bays and reducing the koi filtration system requiring a complete over haul. Another important part of the overall design is that each of the koi equipment parts needed to have the required service valves which enable the koi equipment to be removed. These parts include: Complete koi filtration unit from the pond. Ultraviolet system for the killing of bacteria in the koi pond Heaters is required which stimulate growth in the colder months Pond skimmer pumps which operate the removal of debris and leaves from the pond. As part of our koi pond system design we use remote control so that the skimmers can be turned of when feeding easily and then turned on to remove unwanted fish food from the pond. Aeration system, which introduces oxygen into the pond for the koi, which is a very important part of the overall koi pond design.
